The moves and machines that unblock terrain: Hoenn's seven HMs, both of Rydel's bikes, and the Dowsing Machine. Seven HMs is the most any region ever asked you to carry.

Permalink →Get HM01 Cut
From the Cutter's House in Rustboro City, right beside the Gym. Clears the small trees blocking side paths the length of Hoenn.
Get your first bike from Rydel
Free from Rydel's Cycles in Mauville City. Mach for speed and sand slopes, Acro for rails and bunny hops — you leave with one of the two.
Get HM06 Rock Smash
From Wally's uncle, outside the Mauville City Gym. In Hoenn it is a full HM, not the TM it becomes in Kalos.
Get the Dowsing Machine
Your rival hands it over on Route 110 after a battle. Hidden items stop being hidden.
Get HM04 Strength
From your rival on Route 112, on the climb toward Fiery Path. Shoves the boulders in Rusturf Tunnel and Victory Road.
Get HM03 Surf
Norman gives it up in Petalburg City once the Balance Badge is yours. Half of Hoenn is water.
Get HM02 Fly
From your rival on Route 119, outside the Weather Institute. Warps you back to any town you have already walked into.
Get HM07 Dive
From Steven in Mossdeep City after the Gym. Nothing else reaches the Seafloor Cavern.
Get HM05 Waterfall
From Wallace in Sootopolis City. The last traversal move Hoenn hands out, and the way up into Victory Road.
Own both the Mach Bike and the Acro Bike
Advertise Rydel's Cycles to three people — the Hex Maniac up the muddy slope on Route 111, the Bird Keeper in the Route 119 bridge maze, and the Triathlete near the Battle Resort Day Care — then go back to Rydel.
