A co-op-first roadmap to gaming literacy. Take someone who has never held a controller to the point where they can pick up almost any game, read what it wants, and figure it out without a guide or a partner hovering. Nineteen steps, three or four games each: pick one, reach its checkpoint, move on. Roughly 180 to 260 hours; at five hours a week, nine to twelve months.
